Beginnings
Universal’s Volcano Bay opened in 2017, replacing Wet ‘n Wild as Universal Orlando Resort’s flagship water theme park.
Designed as a tropical paradise with a strong storytelling element, Volcano Bay introduced a fully immersive experience centered around the fictional Waturi people. Unlike traditional water parks, it features lush landscapes, themed dining, and innovative attractions that blend thrills with relaxation.
At its heart stands Krakatau, a towering 200-foot volcano, which houses the park’s signature attraction, Ko’okiri Body Plunge, a 125-foot drop slide with a near-vertical descent. Universal also introduced the TapuTapu wearable, a virtual queue system that eliminates long lines, setting Volcano Bay apart from other water parks.
