Should you stay at Universal Orlando’s Loews Sapphire Falls Resort? We’re here to help you answer that question in this Loews Sapphire Falls Resort review. In this guide, we’ll dive into everything you need to know about the hotel, from rooms and dining to amenities and location.
BOTTOM LINE: Thematically brilliant. Gorgeous views. If you want luxury and water taxi access but don’t care about the unlimited express pass, this is your play.

We first stayed at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort in 2025, but we were fans of the resort for many years before that. When Universal first added Sapphire Falls Resort, we were skeptical about its ability to differentiate from the long standing Royal Pacific Resort. Could hotel theming alone really create two distinct tropical vibes? The answer is yes. And it does it very well.

UNLOCKED TIP: Don’t forget that you can visit other hotels at the resort! You can get an amenities key to other hotels based on on site hotel groupings.
The hotel has some of the best restaurants at the resort, as well as some of the best allergy friendly options. As such, we were hopping down the river to eat at this hotel long before we stayed as overnight guests.

What is Universal’s Loews Sapphire Falls? An Overview of the Hotel
Loews Sapphire Falls Resort opened in 2016 and completed the group of four (4) Universal Orlando Resort river hotels. While it’s technically categorized as a “Preferred” hotel at Universal Orlando, Sapphire Falls has always felt like it’s quietly trying to sneak into the Premier conversation. And in some ways, it succeeds.

Immersive Theming: A Caribbean Paradise
Where Royal Pacific Resort focuses on the Pacific Islander side of a tropical paradise, Sapphire Falls immerses you right in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. The resort leans hard into breezy island luxury, complete with towering palms, colorful architecture, open air walkways, waterfalls, and enough rum vibes to make you briefly consider becoming a yacht person.
Main Lobby Level at Sapphire Falls Resort

Like the other river hotel resorts, Sapphire Falls is a split level hotel that has several main amenity floors to explore away from the guest room towers. Whether you arrive by shuttle, uber, or personal vehicle, your first glimpse of the famous beach ball chandelier and the main lobby is actually on the fourth (4th) floor.
The lobby itself is one of the best at Universal Orlando. It’s large, airy, and full of natural light without feeling chaotic like some theme park hotels can by mid afternoon. Check in and vacation planning are both located here, along with two (2) of the hotel’s restaurants (Strong Water Tavern and New Dutch Trading Co.) and the hotel’s Universal Orlando Store.
And yes, the lobby scent people rave about online is real. Universal somehow weaponized aromatherapy.
The Lagoon Level at Sapphire Falls Resort

The river that runs through Universal Orlando Resort ends (on one side) at the Sapphire Falls lagoon. We love every river hotel, but the views of the lagoon (or bay) at either end are simply unmatched. There’s something about standing along the water at night with the boats coming and going that makes the whole resort feel noticeably more upscale than its price point sometimes suggests.
👇🏼 Jump down to our room guide to see why we recommend the lagoon view rooms overall.
UNLOCKED TIP: Ask for a room in Guest House 3. It’s the only guest tower that has one elevator servicing all eight (8) floors. In Guest House 1 and 2, you have to switch elevators to go down to the lagoon level or up to guest rooms. It’s not the end of the world, but after 27,000 steps in Islands of Adventure, suddenly elevator logistics become deeply personal.
The first floor of the hotel houses the other two (2) hotel restaurants (Amatista and Dhrum Club), the resort pool, and the resort’s namesake waterfalls. It’s also where you will access both the hotel’s water taxi and its shuttle.
Amenities on the Ground Floor
Like each riverside hotel, the Sapphire Falls lagoon dock services its CityWalk water taxi. Jump on board to get dropped off directly in front of Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. The boat transportation is one of the biggest advantages of staying here, especially during busy seasons when the security hub and parking garages start feeling like a social experiment.
RELATED: The river ends at the opposite side at the Portofino Bay, giving each respective hotel a lagoon and a bay. Click here to read our Portofino Bay Hotel review and guide.

You have to take the hotel shuttle to reach EPIC Universe, the south campus hotels, or Endless Summer Resorts. You also have the option to take the shuttle to reach any other resort hotel or the CityWalk shuttle depot. Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Aventura Hotel are both within walking distance of Sapphire Falls, making this one of the best connected hotels on Universal property overall.
UNLOCKED TIP: Take the Cabana Bay Beach Resort walking path to Volcano Bay water park.
Holidays at Sapphire Falls Resort
Like all Universal Orlando on site hotels, Sapphire Falls gets into the holiday spirit in November and December (along with the theme parks) with festive Christmas decorations throughout the hotel. The tropical Christmas aesthetic actually works surprisingly well here.
More and more on site hotels are also getting into the Halloween Horror Nights vibe during September and October, and Sapphire Falls has slowly started leaning into the spooky season energy as well.

Should You Stay at the Sapphire Falls Resort?

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort Price Comparison
Sapphire Falls is nowhere close to the most expensive hotel at the resort. But it is still not a budget option. It sits a tick above Aventura and about two (2) ticks above Cabana Bay Beach Resort (both value properties), depending on the time of year. It’s also usually about half the cost of the least expensive premier resort, which feels appropriate considering it doesn’t come with the major premier amenity (see below).
RELATED: If you check out our handy Universal Orlando On Site Hotel At a Glance chart, you’ll find that Sapphire Falls sits roughly right in the middle, pricing wise.
And that middle ground is exactly why Sapphire Falls has become so popular with repeat Universal guests. You get a genuinely beautiful resort, a full water taxi experience, excellent dining, and a noticeably more upscale atmosphere than the value resorts without entering “I guess we live here now because we spent the mortgage payment on a hotel room” territory.
If you want to stay at a Signature Collection hotel (and have access to the water taxi to the parks), but you don’t want to spend the arm and a leg it costs to stay at a premier resort, Sapphire Falls is the choice for you.
What Sapphire Falls Resort Has and Doesn’t Have
The biggest downside to the hotel, however, is that it doesn’t have complimentary Express Pass Unlimited. That’s the line Universal draws between Sapphire Falls and the premier hotels, and it’s a big one. Depending on the season, buying Express Passes separately can erase the money you saved by staying here in the first place.
That said, if you’re visiting during a slower crowd period, planning to rope drop aggressively, or simply don’t care about riding VelociCoaster four (4) times in a row like a caffeinated velociraptor enthusiast, Sapphire Falls can end up being one of the best value stays on Universal property.
Exclusive Universal Orlando On Site Perks
RELATED: Click here to discover the exclusive benefits at each Universal Orlando on site hotel in our 2026 Universal Orlando Planning guide.

Benefits at Every Universal On Site Hotel
As a Signature Collection hotel, Loews Sapphire Falls includes every basic on site hotel exclusive benefit, including:
- Early Park Admission: Access to select attractions at Universal Orlando theme parks up to an hour early with valid theme park admission.
- Complimentary Transportation: Shuttle buses and water taxis provide convenient access to all Universal Orlando theme parks and Universal CityWalk.
- Resort-Wide Charging Privileges: Guests can use their room key for purchases throughout Universal Orlando Resort.
- Complimentary Merchandise Delivery: Have purchases from any and all Universal Orlando Resort stores delivered directly to your hotel room. You can shop at any time during you trip and not worry about lugging your merch around. (Easily our personal favorite Universal Orlando on site feature!)
UNLOCKED TIP: Packages will usually show up in your room the day after your purchase. Make sure you leave enough time for your stuff to reach your suitcase before your departure.
- Universal Orlando Store: Like every on site hotel, Sapphire Falls has a Universal Orlando merch shop. They’re great for picking up last minute souvenirs before you catch your flight, or for grabbing last minute necessities before you go to the parks.
- Universal Vacation Planning Center: Each on site hotel has its own on site Vacation Planning Center where you can pick up your park tickets from your vacation package and purchase any other Universal Orlando tickets and passes, or make any reservations, you need.
Benefits Exclusive to River Resorts
As a Signature Collection riverside resort, Sapphire Falls has its own river dock and water taxi.

- Water Taxi Service: Hop on this convenient river boat located at your hotel’s dock and enjoy a relaxing ride to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Universal CityWalk.
Travel and Sapphire Falls Resort
Travel to Loews Sapphire Falls Resort
Whether you bring your own vehicle, rent a TURO or other rental vehicle, use a rideshare service, or book the Universal Orlando official shuttle, just pull up to the circle entrance of the hotel, and the hotel team members will take care of you.
If you bring a vehicle to the hotel (rented or otherwise), you have two options, self-parking and valet. The prices are:
- Self parking: $36 per day.
- Valet parking: $45 per day.
If you are not staying at the hotel but want to park there for the day the prices are (30 minutes is complimentary):
- Self parking: $53
- Valet parking: $56
You’re going to experience the same parking fees at every on site hotel (except the new Helios Grand), and it’s frankly why we try to avoid bringing a car to Universal Orlando if at all possible. Between hotel parking, theme park parking, and the general psychological warfare of Florida traffic near International Drive, it’s often just easier to let Universal transport you around like luggage.
UNLOCKED TIP: While we’re on the subject of Helios Grand parking, do not try to self park there as a visitor. The rates are astronomical. Instead, park at one of the other on site hotels and take the shuttle to Helios Grand. Thank us later.
Travel to and from the Parks
Water Taxi
The water taxi is the fastest, most convenient way to get back and forth from the theme parks. Honestly, once you stay at a water taxi hotel, it becomes very hard emotionally to go back. Walking through security at the parking garage suddenly starts feeling beneath you.

We love the water taxi so much. It adds a layer of relaxation and luxury to the trip that’s difficult to explain until you’ve done it. There’s just something about ending a long park day by floating back to your hotel instead of fighting your way through a parking garage escalator migration event. And the water taxi views are not to be underestimated. Especially at night.

Resort Shuttles
However, the shuttles to the north campus parks and CityWalk, EPIC Universe, and Volcano Bay stop at Sapphire Falls just like every other hotel. The Volcano Bay water park is not serviced by the water taxis (same goes for EPIC Universe). You can take the shuttle bus to Volcano Bay or hop over to the dedicated walking path at Cabana Bay.

Walking Path
There is also a walking path that starts at Sapphire Falls, goes past Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and ends up at CityWalk Orlando next to Margaritaville. It also has similarly amazing views.
We’re sure ambitious people choose to take the path for fun and exercise. People like us get our steps at the parks and take the path only out of necessity. The water taxi service closes during inclement weather, at which point you have the option of the bus or the path. Suddenly everyone becomes very interested in upping their step count.

UNLOCKED TIP: The path to the hotel is about a 15-minute walk. The walk over to and back through CityWalk, back to the park entrance, and down to the bus pick up is about 25 to 30 minutes. Plus, then you’re waiting for a bus, boarding a bus, and riding a bus back to the hotel. But to each their own.
Loews Sapphire Falls Resort Accommodations
As a Preferred Universal hotel, Sapphire Falls has standard rooms and guest suites. We’ll go through each below.
Standard Rooms at Sapphire Falls Resort

Standard rooms are offered in 2 queen bed and 1 king bed formats. There are three (3) view options: standard, pool view, and lagoon view. The pool view offers, you guessed it, a view of the pool. Thankfully, the Sapphire Falls pool is actually beautiful and scenic, so this is one of the few hotels where a pool view genuinely feels like an upgrade instead of “congratulations, you can now hear Marco screaming for chicken tenders at 8:00 a.m.”

The standard room without a view selection is over $100 cheaper than selecting a view, but it is what we always say, “you get what you get and you don’t get upset.”
And at Sapphire Falls specifically, that can really matter. Some standard view rooms overlook parking or service areas, while the better view categories noticeably elevate the overall vibe of the stay.
Lagoon View Rooms

We personally think the lagoon views are some of the best, not only at the hotel, but across all of Universal Orlando Resort. Only the bay views at Portofino Bay on the north campus might be better. And obviously now the park views at the Helios Grand are considered the best guest room views across the resort because, well, there’s literally a theme park outside your window like some kind of wealthy wizard fever dream.
RELATED: Click here to find out why we won’t be staying at the Helios Grand again.
But Sapphire Falls lagoon rooms are still elite.
At night especially, the combination of the water, the boats, the waterfalls, the lighting, and the theme park skyline creates a really relaxing atmosphere that feels far removed from the sensory overload happening inside the parks.

Room Sizes Compared
Every standard guest room at Universal Orlando Resort, from the top tier luxury hotels to the best budget hotels, has roughly the same size rooms, between 300–320 square feet. It’s going to feel the same size or slightly smaller than a guest room at an average Holiday Inn. Universal clearly decided long ago that guests would spend most of their time in the parks and therefore only require enough room space to collapse horizontally at the end of the night.
The huge exception to this is the Portofino Bay Hotel, which has a standard room size of 450 square feet. They went wild with the first resort property in 1999 and then apparently gathered everyone in a boardroom and said, “absolutely never again.”
Suites at Sapphire Falls Resort
To be a Signature Collection hotel, a Universal Orlando on site hotel has to have suites. They all have a different collection of suites, but they all have a themed kids suite.
While we love this hotel, we have to say it has the weakest kids suite theming. See our complicated chart below. 👇🏼
- Portofino Bay: Despicable Me Minions
- Hard Rock Hotel: hotel themed, no Universal Orlando movie theme
- Royal Pacific Resort: Jurassic World (amazing)
- Helios Grand Hotel: How to Train Your Dragon (amazing)
- Sapphire Falls Resort: hotel themed, no Universal Orlando movie theme
This is one of the few areas where Sapphire Falls feels noticeably less exciting than some of the competing Signature Collection hotels. Universal knows families love recognizable IP themed rooms, and Sapphire Falls mostly said, “what if the children appreciated tasteful Caribbean decor instead?”
The other suites include multiple bedrooms ranging from 600 to 1300 square feet.
Restaurants at Sapphire Falls Resort
Sapphire Falls is a Signature Collection hotel, and as such, has multiple full service dining options. (Comparatively, on site hotels at the value level have a single (really great) cafeteria.)
Off the main lobby (4th floor) you will find the grab and go option called New Dutch Trading Co. and the Signature Collection offering called Strong Water Tavern. On the lagoon level (1st floor) you will find Amatista Cookhouse, the all day dining option, and Drhum Club Kantine, the poolside restaurant and bar. Room service is also available 24/7.
Amatista Cookhouse

- What: Full table service
- Where: Lagoon level
- Breakfast: 7AM to 11AM
- Lunch: 12PM to 5PM
- Dinner: 5PM to 10PM

This is the all day restaurant venue at Sapphire Falls. Every on site hotel has one. We first hopped over to Amatista via the water taxi from CityWalk to check out the gluten free food at Amatista because the menu is covered in gluten free options. The dining room is large, airy, and it sits lagoon side on the first (1st) floor, so it has amazing views of the lagoon and waterfalls.

As we only eat gluten free food, that’s all we’ve tried here, but it is spectacular. So we can only assume the rest of the food is, too. The menus are packed with something for every taste.

Also, and you know we check, the bar stools at Amatista are the best at the resort.
New Dutch Trading Co.

- What: Grab and go and counter service
- Where: Off the lobby
- Hours: 6AM to 11PM
Every on site Universal Orlando on site hotel has an all day grab and go venue. At Sapphire Falls it’s called New Dutch Trading Co., and it is by far by favorite of all the on site hotels.

Like the majority of Sapphire Falls, it is large and airy. It’s part grab and go, part coffee shop, part liquor store, part gelateria, and somehow all those things work together without feeling chaotic.

If you need gluten free, you will notice the well marked gelato flavors!
You can grab water, soft drinks, beer, and wine there. Quick grab food options include chips, candy, cold sandwiches, charcuterie, desserts, and more. It also houses one of the hotel’s Coke Freestyle machine. There are tables to eat there, or you can take it with you.

RELATED: Click here to read about Coke Freestyle and more Universal Orlando tips and tricks in our 2025 FAQ.
Strong Water Tavern

- What: Bar and full table service
- Where: Off the lobby
- Food Service: 4PM to 11PM
- Bar Service: 4PM to 12AM (1AM on Friday and Saturday)
Strong Water is the special Signature Collection offering at Sapphire Falls. This is one of the best lounges at Universal Orlando Resort. The menu is genuinely fun and samples cuisines from across the Caribbean, including American, Cuban, Jamaican, Colombian, Mexican, and Puerto Rican influences.

We are particular fans of the Ropa Vieja and the coconut rice.
Strong Water is technically a rum club, so expect that spirit to feature heavily across the cocktail menu. They also serve beer and wine, but this is definitely a “rum people have found their homeland” kind of venue.

The atmosphere here is excellent at night. Low lighting, water views, good music, and a lounge vibe that somehow feels upscale without being stuffy. This is one of those places where people accidentally sit down for “one drink” and emerge three (3) hours later discussing annual pass upgrades.
Drhum Club Kantine

- What: Bar and full table service
- Where: Poolside
- Food Service: 11AM to 9PM (10PM on Friday and Saturday)
- Bar Service: 11AM to 10PM (11PM on Friday and Saturday)
Every hotel has at least one outdoor poolside bar and/or restaurant, and at Sapphire Falls it’s called the Drhum Club Kantine.

The pool area at Sapphire Falls is quite large and comfortable (the downside being the hike from the pool entrance to the Kantine). There is tons of seating for the full service menu, and the bar itself has stools that almost compete with Amatista.

Drhum Club has a full table service menu that includes both food and craft cocktails. The cocktail menu, fitting with the Caribbean theme, includes vacation classics like piña coladas, rum punch, hurricanes, mojitos, and margaritas. In other words, the exact kind of drinks that make people start looking at Orlando real estate listings after two (2) rounds. (It’s us. We’re people.)
The bar drinks at Drhum Club are wonderful. What we have sampled of the food is mediocre.
Room Service at Sapphire Falls Resort
- What: Room service
- Where: Your hotel room
- Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Room service is available at this and every Signature Collection hotel. At Sapphire Falls the options are pulled from all food options at the hotel.

UNLOCKED TIP: Don’t be afraid to order room service because you have a food restriction. Talk it through over the phone. They’re excellent.
Dietary Accommodations at Sapphire Falls Resort
RELATED: Click here to read more about Universal Orlando Resort’s dietary accommodation policy in our 2026 Ultimate Planning Guide.
At 90% of the food venues across Universal Orlando Resort, you will find some of the best dietary accommodations anywhere. Sapphire Falls is one of the hotels that goes out of its way to mark the dietary information on most of its menus.
RELATED: Click here to access our series that covers every single gluten free option across Universal Orlando Resort.
Shops at Sapphire Falls Resort
Universal Studios Store
Every hotel has a Universal merch shop. Sapphire Falls’ is located off the main lobby near New Dutch Trading Co. These stores have last minute items like sunglasses, sunscreen, meds, umbrellas, ponchos, etc. They also have tons of merch from every land, including and especially Harry Potter merch. The selection is much more limited than the big stores at the parks, but sometimes they have unique items you won’t find anywhere else.

UNLOCKED TIP: Pop in here to grab lanyards and pouches to store your passes and room keys before you head to the parks.
Amenities at Sapphire Falls Resort
Pools and Activities at Sapphire Falls Resort
Sapphire Falls Resort Pool

As we mentioned above, the Sapphire Falls pool area is quite large. It houses a 16,000 square foot pool, the Dhrum Club Kantine, a sand beach, cabanas for rent, table and yard games, a fit pit, a hot tub, a kid’s play area, a water slide, and more.

If you’re looking to spend a park off day around the hotel pool, this one does not disappoint.
Calypso Game Zone

Every Universal Orlando on site hotel has their own version of a video arcade. The Sapphire Falls arcade is located on the second (2nd) floor near the pool entrance. If you or your kids love video game arcades, it might be right up your alley!
Kalina Health & Fitness

The Sapphire Falls fitness center is also located on the second (2nd) floor also near the pool entrance. The fitness center is relatively large for a hotel gym and well stocked. There are fitness machines, a free weight area, and a weight machine area. We’d rather get our workouts at the parks, but to each their own!
Convenience Amenities at Sapphire Falls Resort
Luggage Storage
This one is important. Don’t waste a day of your trip sitting around waiting for your check in or check out time. Store your luggage and spend that time exploring the resort or the hotel. This is especially important if you booked a Universal Orlando vacation package. Because your tickets will be valid the day of arrival and the day of departure.

Laundry Service
Laundry services include a coin operated laundromat, dry cleaning, quick pressing and shoe shine. Services are available 9AM to 6PM, seven (7) days per week. The hotel offers express or same day service.
Business Center
Sapphire Falls has a business center that is open from 7AM to 5:30PM on weekdays.
Text Service
This is hardly new anymore as many hotels across the world employ it, but Sapphire Falls, along with every other Universal on site hotel, has a texting service that you can use instead of calling the front desk. They will send you a welcome text when you check in, and after that if you need anything or have any problems, just text the chain. It’s very helpful and convenient.

Universal Planning Center
Every Universal Orlando on site hotel has a Universal Vacation Planning Center. Sapphire Falls’ is located next to the check in desk in the main lobby. The planning centers are important because it’s where you pick up your park tickets from your vacation package. They also have any and all other park needs covered. You can buy any other passes there, including special event tickets like Halloween Horror Nights.
Amazon Delivery/Door Dash/Instacart
Before and during the pandemic, you could reliably have packages, groceries, and food delivered to any on site hotel. This is still true in some cases, but the past couple years we have found that these services are spotty at best. Try it at your own risk.
Groups and Events
Sapphire Falls Resort has over 115,000 square feet of event space, including ballrooms, boardrooms, pavilions and gardens. Contact the hotel here for information about business, weddings, or other events.
RELATED: Loews Sapphire Falls Resort is adjacent to Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and each of their meetings spaces are connected, creating almost 250,000 square feet of event space.

Conclusion: Our Loews Sapphire Falls Resort Review for 2025
Thanks for reading! Make sure to bookmark this post if you’re thinking of staying at Sapphire Falls!
Loews Sapphire Falls occupies a really interesting place in the Universal Orlando hotel lineup. It gives guests a genuinely beautiful resort experience, access to the water taxi system, excellent dining, strong theming, and a noticeably more relaxed atmosphere than the value hotels without launching all the way into premier hotel pricing territory.
And that balance is why so many Universal Orlando veterans love it.
Yes, the lack of complimentary Express Pass Unlimited hurts a little, especially during peak crowds. But if you are visiting during a slower season, planning to rope drop the parks, or simply care more about the overall resort experience than riding every attraction six (6) times in a row, Sapphire Falls can easily become one of the best value stays on Universal property.
The hotel feels upscale without feeling stuffy. The lagoon views are gorgeous. The water taxi remains elite. Strong Water Tavern alone has probably convinced at least several guests to extend their vacation by one (1) additional night. And unlike some of the more expensive hotels at Universal Orlando, Sapphire Falls still manages to feel relaxed and approachable.
It’s not the flashiest hotel at Universal Orlando Resort. But it might quietly be one of the most likable.
