What is Hard Rock Hotel Orlando? An Overview

Hard Rock Orlando opened in 2001 as the second (2nd) of Universal Orlando’s on site hotels, and it has been one of the jewels of its hotel collection ever since. Don’t let the age fool you. The hotel is refreshed regularly, with the most recent refurbishment completed in 2025.

Immersive Theming: A Music Lover’s Paradise
Like every Hard Rock Hotel, the Orlando location is a music lover’s paradise. Every hallway, wall, alcove, restaurant, and guest room is packed with music history and memorabilia.
Main Lobby

Like the other premier level resorts at Universal Orlando, Hard Rock is split level, with the lobby and porte cochère located on the third floor. The lobby is also home to Velvet Bar and plenty of incredible music memorabilia, making it worth slowing down to look around instead of heading straight to your room.
The Pool
Hard Rock is known for its 12,000 square foot pool, complete with underwater speakers that play music throughout the day. It’s one of the hotel’s signature features and a hit with guests who enjoy spending time at the pool.
Rock and Roll Memorabilia
Everything from The Beatles to Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Lady Gaga, Johnny Cash, Queen, and Elvis Presley is represented throughout the hotel. The collection is so extensive that you could spend hours simply wandering the halls taking it all in.

Murals, instruments, rare memorabilia, photographs, and fun facts are scattered throughout the property, making the hotel feel as much like a music museum as a resort. You’ll also see pictures of the memorabilia scattered throughout this article.
The Property

As noted above, this is a large split level hotel. The pool, poolside bar, The Kitchen, Emack & Bolio’s Marketplace, and several other amenities are located on the first floor, while the lobby sits on the third floor.
Unlike its neighbor, Portofino Bay (which has multiple buildings to navigate), the Hard Rock is a single contiguous building. But it is a very large one. We still don’t think we’ve seen every part of this hotel, and that is saying something.

Gardens, walking paths, and plenty of outdoor seating surround the property. Head out the back of the hotel to catch the complimentary water taxi along Universal’s waterway, or follow the walking path to the parks.
Holidays at Hard Rock Orlando

Like all Universal Orlando on site hotels, Hard Rock gets into the holiday spirit. Expect festive Christmas decorations during the holidays and Halloween Horror Nights themed touches around the resort each fall.

Pros and Cons
While we go into more detail about the benefits and drawbacks of staying at Hard Rock later in this article, a short list of pros and cons are below.
Pros
- Unlimited Universal Express Pass included for every registered guest, and many other exclusive park benefits
- Incredible rock and roll theming and memorabilia throughout the hotel
- Excellent dining, including the Palm, the Kitchen, Velvet Bar, and the pool bar, beachclub
- Walking path and complimentary water taxi to the parks
- Spacious suites for larger families

Cons
- One of the most expensive hotels at Universal Orlando
- Loud, energetic atmosphere isn’t for everyone
- Popular with teenagers and families, so it can feel busy throughout the day
Hard Rock Hotel Orlando Price Comparison
We aren’t going to sugarcoat it. Hard Rock is expensive. All three premier level resorts are expensive, and which one costs the most changes throughout the year based on demand and seasonal pricing.
They also come with the most valuable amenities, including Unlimited Universal Express Pass and other exclusive park benefits (all covered in the next section👇🏼).
Purchased separately, Unlimited Universal Express Pass can cost up to $375 per person, per day. Depending on your party size, that adds up fast. For example, a family of four staying at Cabana Bay Beach Resort for three nights could easily spend more than $4,000 just to add Unlimited Express Passes.
On the other hand, if Unlimited Universal Express Pass isn’t important to you, Hard Rock may not be worth the super premium price.

- Complimentary Merchandise Delivery: Have purchases from any and all Universal Orlando Resort stores delivered directly to your hotel room. You can shop at any time during you trip and not worry about lugging your merch around. (Easily our personal favorite Universal Orlando on site feature!)
UNLOCKED TIP: Packages will usually show up in your room the day after your purchase. Make sure you leave enough time for your stuff to reach your suitcase before your departure.
- Universal Studios Store: Like every on site hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Orlando has a Universal Orlando merch shop. They’re great for picking up last minute souvenirs before you catch your flight, or for grabbing last minute necessities before you go to the parks. In this instance, don’t rely too heavily on the Rock Shop for the latter.
- Universal Vacation Planning Center: Each on site hotel has its own on site Vacation Planning Center where you can pick up your park tickets from your vacation package and purchase any other Universal Orlando tickets and passes, or make any reservations, you need.

Benefits Exclusive to Premier Resorts
- Universal Express Pass Unlimited: Skip the lines every time with unlimited use of the Universal Express Pass.
UNLOCKED TIP: The Universal Express Pass Unlimited is valued anywhere from $160–$375 per day. At certain times this can be the entire price of your stay per night, and every guest in the room gets an express pass. Totally worth it.
- Water Taxi Service: Hop on this convenient river boat located at your hotel’s dock and enjoy a relaxing ride to Universal Orlando theme parks and Universal CityWalk.
- Priority Seating at Resort Restaurants: Show your room key at restaurants across the resort and skip the walk in guest line.

Travel and Hard Rock Orlando

Travel to Hard Rock Orlando
Whether you bring your own vehicle, rent a TURO or AVIS vehicle, use a rideshare service, or book the Universal Orlando official shuttle, just pull up to the circle entrance of the hotel, and the hotel team members will take care of you.
If you bring a vehicle to the hotel (rented or otherwise), you have two options, self-parking and valet. The prices are:
- Self parking: $36 per day
- Valet parking: $45 per day
If you are not staying at the hotel but want to park there for the day the prices are (30 minutes complimentary):
- Self parking: $53 per day
- Valet parking: $56 per day
You’re going to experience similar parking fees at every on site hotel, and it’s frankly why we try to avoid bringing a car to Universal Orlando if at all possible.
Travel to and from the Parks

The water taxi is the fastest, most convenient way to get back and forth from the theme parks. However, the resort shuttle to the north campus parks and CityWalk, EPIC Universe, and Volcano Bay stop at Hard Rock Orlando just like every other hotel. The Volcano Bay water park is not serviced by the water taxis. You must take the dedicated Volcano Bay shuttle bus. Same goes for EPIC Universe.
UNLOCKED TIP: Keep in mind that no matter which entrance you use (CityWalk, water taxi, or walking path) you will still have to go through metal detectors to enter the resort. There is no way to get into the parks otherwise. Security sits at the entrance to CityWalk, both walking path gates, and each water taxi dock.

We could never say enough amazing things about the water taxis. It adds a layer of relaxation and luxury to the trip you won’t find anywhere else. And the water taxi views are not to be underestimated!
Walking Path
There is also a walking path that starts at Portofino Bay, goes past the Hard Rock Orlando, and ends up at the Universal Studios Florida gate. It has similarly amazing views. I’m sure ambitious people choose to take the path for fun. People like us take the path only out of necessity. The water taxi service closes during inclement weather. You then have the option of the bus or the path.

UNLOCKED TIP: The path from CityWalk Orlando to Hard Rock Hotel Orlando is about a ten (10) minute walk. The walk over to and back through CityWalk, back to the park entrance, and down to the bus pick up is about 25 to 30 minutes. Plus, then you’re waiting for a bus. But to each their own.

Hard Rock Orlando Accommodations

Standard Rooms
Standard guest rooms range from 375 to 500 square feet. They’re among the largest standard rooms at Universal Orlando, second only to Portofino Bay. Even so, most Hard Rock rooms still feel noticeably smaller than Portofino’s spacious standard rooms.
Like the rest of the hotel, every room includes fun nods to rock and roll culture. During one of our stays, the mirror listed the heights of famous rock musicians, which made getting ready in the morning a little more entertaining.

Views
Grab a pool view for an upcharge, if that’s your thing.
Room Sizes Compared
Most Universal Orlando on site hotel rooms measure between 310 and 325 square feet. That includes everything from the budget Endless Summer Resorts to the premier level Royal Pacific. Hard Rock and Portofino Bay are the notable exceptions.
Standard rooms at Hard Rock start at 375 square feet, while standard rooms at Portofino Bay measure 450 square feet.

Deluxe Rooms
Need a little extra space? Deluxe Rooms offer approximately 400 square feet with one king bed or up to 500 square feet with two queen beds.
Club Level
Hard Rock offers Club Level accommodations on the seventh (7th) floor. Upgrade your stay and you’ll receive access to the Club Lounge, which includes complimentary food and beverages throughout the day, along with the other standard Club Level perks.
Suites
Hard Rock offers several suite options with a variety of layouts and views, including the Future Rock Star Suites for kids, Hospitality Suites, and the Graceland Suite. Suite sizes range from approximately 650 to 2,000 square feet.
Hard Rock Orlando Dining
The Kitchen

- What: Full table service
- Where: First floor
- Hours: 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM (11:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays)

The Kitchen has a huge menu and is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere at Universal Orlando. The Rockin’ Rolls are, frankly, life changing.

The restaurant is also known for its allergy accommodations. During our visits, team members have been knowledgeable about cross contact procedures and happy to prepare gluten free meals safely in the kitchen.
The dining room is large, comfortable, and a great option whether you’re starting your day or winding down after the parks.

We love this place so much that we frequently stop by even when we aren’t staying at Hard Rock.
Click here to explore the Kitchen menu.
The Palm

- What: Full table service
- Where: First floor
- Hours: 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM (9:00 PM on Sundays)
- Cocktail Hour: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (except Saturdays)

The Palm is the hotel’s upscale steakhouse and part of the well known national chain. We loved our meal here, although it definitely falls into the special occasion price range.

Expect excellent steaks, classic cocktails, strong allergy accommodations, and an atmosphere that fits the hotel’s rock and roll theme while still feeling timeless and upscale.

Click here to explore the Palm menu.
Emack & Bolio’s

- What: Grab and go and counter service
- Where: First floor
- Hours: 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Emack & Bolio’s is Hard Rock’s grab and go market, offering Starbucks coffee, a hot menu, and limited packaged snacks. Every Universal Orlando on site hotel has at least one all day grab and go venue.

We don’t love the variety at this one, but it will do in a pinch. You can grab water, soft drinks, beer, hard liquor, and wine there. Quick grab food options include chips, candy, cold sandwiches, charcuterie, desserts, and more. It also houses one of the hotel’s Coke Freestyle machines.
Unlike most grab and go markets, there is no dining area near Emack. You can take stuff out to the pool though.
RELATED: Click here to read about Coke Freestyle and more Universal Orlando tips and tricks in our 2026 FAQ.
Velvet Bar

- What: Bar and full table service
- Where: Off the main lobby
- Hours: 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM
Velvet Bar is Hard Rock’s lobby bar, and we ended up enjoying it more than expected. The atmosphere is comfortable, the cocktails are excellent (the espresso martini gets our vote), and it’s a great place to unwind after a day in the parks.

We wouldn’t rely on the bar itself for allergy knowledge or accommodations. If you have food restrictions, you’ll generally have better luck at the hotel’s full service restaurants.
Click here to explore the Velvet Bar menu.
beachclub

- What: Bar and full table service
- Where: Poolside
- Hours: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM (11:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays)
In terms of seating, service, and menu variety, beachclub is one of the best pool bars at Universal Orlando. The menu is surprisingly extensive, the food is genuinely good, and the gluten free options were some of the strongest we experienced during our stay.

The only other poolside bar at Universal Orlando that I would put as high as beachclub is Lotus Lagoon at the new Helios Grand Hotel.
RELATED: Click here to read about our experience at Lotus Lagoon and Laney’s experience with their gluten free offerings.

Click here to explore the beachclub menu.
Room Service
- What: Room service
- Where: Your hotel room
- Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Room service is available at Hard Rock and every Signature Collection hotel. At Hard Rock, the menu pulls from several of the hotel’s dining venues, giving you plenty of options without leaving your room.
UNLOCKED TIP: Don’t be afraid to order room service because you have a food restriction. Universal’s Signature Collection hotels are generally excellent at accommodating allergies, even through room service.

Dietary Accommodations at Hard Rock Orlando
RELATED: Click here to get our Gluten Free at Universal Orlando series covering every dining venue at Universal Orlando.
Like the rest of Universal Orlando Resort, Hard Rock takes food allergies seriously. As soon as you mention a food restriction, team members are typically quick to explain the available options and follow established procedures for preparing allergen safe meals.
Our experience was strongest at the Kitchen, the Palm, and beachclub, where team members were knowledgeable about cross contact and confident discussing gluten free preparation. Service and options were a bit more inconsistent at Velvet Bar and Emack & Bolio’s, so your experience may depend on who’s working during your visit.

Amenities at Hard Rock Hotel Orlando

Universal Studios Store
Every Universal Orlando hotel has its own merchandise shop. At Hard Rock, it’s called the Rock Shop. You’ll find last minute necessities like sunglasses, sunscreen, medicine, umbrellas, ponchos, and other travel essentials, along with a selection of Universal Orlando merchandise.
That said, the Rock Shop leans much more into the Hard Rock brand than Universal Orlando. You’ll find plenty of Hard Rock apparel and souvenirs, but a smaller selection of Universal merchandise than you’ll see at some of the other hotels.
Pool at Hard Rock Hotel Orlando

The 12,000 square foot pool is Hard Rock’s signature amenity and is famous for its underwater speakers that play music throughout the day. It’s one of the most recognizable pools at Universal Orlando and regularly hosts games, activities, and plenty of energy during busy seasons.

Rock Out In Your Room
One of Hard Rock’s coolest perks is the Sound of Your Stay program, which lets guests bring the music into their room in a few different ways. You can stream curated playlists, borrow a Fender guitar to play during your stay (with a refundable deposit and agreement), or even have a Crosley record player and a selection of classic vinyl records delivered to your room.

It’s a fun perk that fits the hotel’s theme and gives music fans something you won’t find at the other Universal Orlando hotels.
Don’t ask us about soundproof walls.
Velvet Sessions
Velvet Sessions is Hard Rock’s live music series, bringing nationally recognized artists and tribute acts to the hotel throughout the year. Events are typically held near Velvet Bar and the lobby area, creating a much livelier atmosphere than you’ll find at the other Universal hotels.
If your trip happens to line up with a performance, it’s worth checking out the schedule before you arrive.
Video Game Arcade

Like every Universal Orlando on site hotel, Hard Rock has its own video game arcade. It’s a solid place for kids, teenagers, or anyone looking to burn off a little energy after leaving the parks. While it isn’t a destination on its own, it’s a nice extra amenity to have on rainy afternoons or slower resort days.
Fitness Center
Hard Rock’s fitness center is part of the hotel’s Sound Body wellness program. Along with traditional workout equipment, guests can request a complimentary Rock Om yoga kit that includes a yoga mat. Guided yoga videos are also available on the in room televisions, making it easy to squeeze in a workout without leaving your room.
Convenience Amenities
Luggage Storage
This one is important. Don’t waste a day of your trip sitting around waiting for your check in or check out time. Store your luggage and spend that time exploring the resort.
This is especially important if you booked a Universal Orlando vacation package. Because your tickets will be valid the day of arrival and the day of departure. Find it in the main lobby by concierge.
Laundry Service
Hard Rock offers laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing services for guests. Same day service is available if your items are dropped off early enough in the morning, making it a convenient option for longer vacations or unexpected wardrobe emergencies.
Business Center

The self service business center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for guests who need printing, copying, or other basic business services.
Text Service
Like many hotels today, Hard Rock offers a text messaging service that lets you communicate with the front desk instead of calling. After check in, you’ll receive a welcome text and can use that conversation to request towels, ask questions, or report issues throughout your stay.

Universal Vacation Planning Center
Every Universal Orlando on site hotel has a Universal Vacation Planning Center, and Hard Rock’s is located in the main lobby.
If you booked a Universal vacation package, this is where you’ll pick up your park tickets. The team can also help with express passes, upgrades, special event tickets like Halloween Horror Nights, dining reservations, and just about anything else related to your Universal vacation.
Packages & Deliveries
Before and during the pandemic, you could reliably have packages, groceries, and food delivered to any on site hotel. This is still true in some cases, but the past couple years we have found that these services are spotty at best. Try it at your own risk.
Groups and Events
Hard Rock Hotel Orlando offers more than 16,000 square feet of event space, making it a popular choice for meetings, conferences, weddings, and other special events.
The hotel includes more than 7,000 square feet of indoor event space, over 9,000 square feet of outdoor venues, and a catering team that can accommodate a variety of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, and kosher menus.

So, should you stay at Hard Rock Hotel Orlando?
If you love the rock and roll theme, plan to take full advantage of Unlimited Universal Express Pass, and don’t mind paying premier level resort prices, we think you’ll have a fantastic stay. Between the location, the restaurants, and all of the exclusive perks, it’s easy to understand why Hard Rock has such a loyal following.
That said, we don’t think it’s the perfect hotel for everyone. If you’re trying to save money, don’t care about express pass, or simply prefer a quieter resort or different, there are many choices elsewhere at Universal Orlando. We’d rather help you book the right hotel than the most expensive one.
For us, Hard Rock lands somewhere in the middle of the premier level resort rankings. We love the food, we love the atmosphere, and we’ll happily stay here again. We just don’t think it’s the automatic choice that some people make it out to be.
At the end of the day, the “best” Universal Orlando hotel is the one that fits your vacation, not someone else’s. Hopefully this guide helped you figure out whether Hard Rock is that hotel.
And if not … don’t worry. We have plenty of likely offensive opinions about the other on site hotels, too.
