Beginnings
Islands of Adventure opened in 1999 as Universal Orlando Resort’s second theme park, designed to bring beloved stories to life through thrilling rides and immersive environments. Unlike its sister park, Universal Studios Florida, which focuses on movie-making magic, Islands of Adventure was built to fully transport guests into fictional worlds.
The park launched with six themed islands: Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Lost Continent, Seuss Landing, and Port of Entry. It quickly became a fan-favorite for thrill rides, introducing groundbreaking attractions like The Incredible Hulk Coaster and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, which set a new standard for theme park technology.
Over the years, the park expanded, most notably in 2010 with the arrival of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, forever changing the landscape of theme parks worldwide.
